Why is my zipcode unknown?

This is not a US zip code, it is the formula for a Canadian Postal Code, as you should know. Some US web stores have difficulty with this formula, but very few. Perhaps the 'What is my IP address?' sites have the same difficulty ... mine shows two listings, one 'US -unknown location', and the other the head office of my IP server, two time zones away!
